Experimental Highway Stuff

As I mentioned before, this section (and definitely this page) is purely experimental right now. It's just a "placeholder" for graphics, web page layouts, snippets of code... whatever comes to mind. This page will change sporadically, so stop by often and catch a glimpse of what goes on in the chaotic mind of a Michigan roadgeek. :)

Alaska State Highway Route Markers

Huh? Alaska? A Michiganian working on Alaska route markers? Yes.

The reason for doing this is that I am exploring the possibility of working on a website that may cover all highways nationwide. Since Alaska has only 12 numbered routes, and these highways also are named, it gives me an ideal opportunity to test the "architecture" of my website. I hope to develop a good, sound database schema that allows for a small sampling of highways, and can also cover situations where named highways are just as important as their numbers. A benefit will be that, once I have "proven" my design, I will already have one state completed. :)

Here is the complete set of all 12 of Alaska's numbered highways:
AK-1 AK-2 AK-3 AK-4 AK-5 AK-6
AK-7 AK-8 AK-9 AK-10 AK-11 AK-98

My original artwork uses 256x256 pixel images, and for my website I will use 64x64 markers, as you see here. Again, for those of you who frequent misc.transport.road, your feedback is always appreciated.

Michigan State Highway Route Markers

I also built a set of Michigan road markers as well. Here are some samples:
M-6M-37M-44M-185M-217M-247M-553Capitol Loop

Indiana State Highway Route Markers

And here are some sample highway markers from the Hoosier state:
SR-1SR-19SR-23SR-39SR-827SR-912SR-933

Washington, DC's only "state" highway: DC-295

DC-295
Here is another (re-)creation: the only "state" route marker in the District of Columbia, DC-295.

Vermont State Highway Route Markers

VT-346VT-207VT-155 After a long break from working on my website, I have now completed work on a brand new set of highway shield graphics, this time from the Green Mountain State.

Massachusetts State Highway Route Markers

Here are some samples.

Again, your feedback is always appreciated. Thanks much!
